Brent Ramdin, President at ACT | NRCCUA facilitates a conversation with Maura Flaschner, FAU’s Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions, Joel Vander Horst, FAU’s Director of Admissions and Enrollment, and Chris Tyburski, Regional Vice President of Encoura Enrollment Services at ACT | NRCCUA. They discuss how FAU was able to mature its enrollment practices and partner with ACT | NRCCUA to make the class by communicating student-centric pathways via the most relevant channels.

Brent brings more than 12 years of higher education industry experience, and was most recently the president of dialogEDU, an e-learning company focused on healthcare education. Brent’s passion for NRCCUA and its mission comes from his first tenure with the organization as its chief product and strategy officer from 2012 to 2013. Brent’s passion for finding efficiencies and improving student and staff experiences will be key to the continued evolution of Encoura. He earned his MBA and BS in information systems from Florida Atlantic University.

Regional Vice President, Enrollment Services

Chris joined Encoura in 2017 to help the first adopters of the Encoura platform embrace the new technology and infuse a data-driven approach throughout their enrollment operations. Prior to joining our team, Chris was Director of Undergraduate Admission at Pace University and Director of College Admission at Drew University. He also spent 7 years providing brand development and marketing strategies to colleges and universities across the country. Chris earned his BA in English and Psychology from Drew University.

Maura Flaschner

Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Florida Atlantic University

Prior to returning home to south Florida, Maura served as the Director of Academic Admissions at Augusta University. Her previous experience includes 16 years in admissions at Iowa State University. She spent eight years serving as Associate Director of Freshman and International Admission. Maura has her M.ED in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from Iowa State University and a B.A in Criminology from the University of South Florida where she began her career in admission. Her portfolio includes building relationships across campus and in the community, application review, and innovating initiatives to promote access in higher education.

Joel Vander Horst

Director of Undergraduate Recruitment at Florida Atlantic University and Director of Admissions for FAU’s Wilkes Honors College

Prior to FAU, Joel’s work in admissions revolved around enrollment growth at private universities, leading efforts at Newberry College in South Carolina and Lynn University in Florida. He has a passion for student recruitment that derives from defining, implementing, and nurturing enrollment strategies, while maintaining the human touch needed when working with students of different backgrounds and interests. He values and takes an active role incorporating technology to recruitment efforts and developing effective teams.
